Fifty-two Island Hotels Group Holdings plc employees have received special recognition Pearl Awards.

Members of staff were recognised for going beyond what is normally expected from them in the areas that represent the core values of the group.

The award categories ensure employees at all levels and from all departments may qualify, ensuring that any employee who genuinely lives the values is recognised for their efforts.

The categories include friendliness, creativity, eco initiatives and humanitarian deeds, among others. Patrick Galea, who won the Malta Tourism Authority's Hotel Worker of the Year awards earlier this year, was the evening's special guest.

All 52 nominees were recognised and rewarded with certificates, cash, vouchers and a Pearl pin, while the 10 overall Pearl awardees were presented with a crafted crystal award and will be company ambassadors in 2010.

Christina Galea, the group's HR director, said, "The value of recognising employees for excellence and outstanding performance is priceless and the effect of such recognition lasts throughout the year. The pride of receiving such recognition in the presence of a spouse or a manager further strengthens motivation."
