Partit Demokratiku has filed an official state aid complaint to the European Commission regarding the price of the ITS and neighbouring public land sold to the db Group, arguing this was sold at below its market value.

In a statement on Sunday, PD said the filing of an official state aid complaint was the necessary legal step at this point to enable investigations to take place.
It said it was baffling how the Auditor General's opinion on the matter had not yet materialised.

Public land, it pointed out, seemed to have been sacrificed in exchange for PL and PN party financing and possibly more.

PD said it was the party in Parliament which had taken the clearest stand against the db Group project on the former ITS site.

Its resistance to this project began in Parliament when PD MP Marlene Farrugia spoke against it in February 2017 and since then the PD remained in the forefront in and out of Parliament participating in all public protests and airing its opinion.

It first filed an objection to the Planning Authority on May 25. It has now also contributed to the Appeals Fund set up by NGOs to combat “this monstrous project”, which “would severely impact the lives of residents and also unreasonably burden our already strained infrastructure”.

Partit Demokratiku hoped the Nationalist Party would show that it was not anybody’s puppet by also going public in supporting the funds appeal against db Group.

It noted that the PN leadership only came out against the project two days before the PA decision because it knew that their vote on the board could not stop the project. Had the Nationalist Party held the balance of power, would they still have voted against the project, it asked.

PD said it was also not acceptable that all the students and staff of ITS were exiled to Luqa against their wishes and the ITS-hotel Smart City put at hold for a project that made no sense for the country as a whole.

Partit Demokratiku said it would continue to fight any government doings that did not make sense.
