The government has completed its revision of the parking policy but implementation has been put off pending the full operation of the bus service as agreed with the new operator, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said this evening.

Replying to a question by Nationalist MP Censu Galea, the minister said an inter-ministerial committee would be evaluating the bus service in every locality, especially in localities facing more problems than others.

In July last year the minister said in reply to another question that the National Parking Policy focused on the maximisation of existing parking spaces and promoted the use of alternative means of transport by launching new proposals and control systems with this aim in mind.

The policy itself does not accord priority to any particular town or village, but focuses on priority zones defined by land use.

Mr Mizzi said some policy proposals had been amended following widespread consultation and comments by the public.

Also taken into consideration were the comments of local councils.
