I am writing to highlight the parking problem in Sliema, which leads to daily frustration for Sliema residents. It has not become uncommon to spend 30 minutes driving around the streets in order to find somewhere to park on return home from work.
As time goes by the parking problem seems to be getting worse. Surely something should be done to remedy the problem. A residential parking scheme would be welcome. Such a scheme may reserve the majority of parking spaces (around 75 per cent) for residents only, while the remaining 25 per cent would be freely available to non-residents. A sticker on the windscreen may distinguish residents from non-residents, while a colour scheme may distinguish parking spaces from those reserved for non-residents (for example white borders and green borders respectively).
