The Malta Olympic Committee (MOC) in collaboration with the Malta Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA), yesterday organised the annual Olympic Day Run, this year marking the 75th anniversary of the two sporting bodies.

MOC president, Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco, signalled the start of the 10.4km race, sponsored by Powerade, at Mdina where 150 athletes gathered to take part in the run.

AS Libertas runner Charles Cilia was the first athlete to cross the finishing line at City Gate in Valletta in a time of 37.34 minutes. The Libertas runner finished ahead of Pembroke's Mario Pisani (37.58) and Jonathan Balzan, of St Patrick, (39.06).

Silvana Camilleri of St Patrick was the first woman home, completing the distance in 44.45. Fifty young runners lined up for a fun run from Blata l-Bajda to Valletta.

The top ten athletes in each race received souvenirs of the Games of the Small States of Europe 2003, which were held in Malta in the first week of this month.
