Brutally honest live commentary is the best part of any Eurovision show, which is why timesofmalta.com is pulling out all the stops this year to entertain even the most disillusioned fans (because most Maltese are fans of the contest, even if they don’t admit it).

Actor Alan Montanaro, known as the king of pantomime, will join the admittedly less amusing Times journalist Christian Peregin for a live minute-by-minute blog on Thursday, which hopes to live up to the glory days of legendary host Terry Wogan.

The duo – who have never actually met and might have absolutely no comedic chemistry – will be giving a rundown of Thursday’s semi-final when Malta’s Kurt Calleja will vie for a place in Saturday’s final in Azerbaijan with the song This Is The Night.

As usual, viewers will be free to post minute-by-minute comments on Malta’s most popular website.

The live commentary aims to add a more deliberate touch of humour to the show, which already promises to include an assortment of creepy gloves, shrieking voices and horrendous hairdos.

Since even Mr Calleja does not seem to be under any illusion that there will be more than one night to sing about, timesofmalta.com will not make any promises of live commentary for Saturday’s finale.

But readers can rest assured that they will be kept entertained on Thursday night if they log on to timesofmalta.com from any of their web-based devices.
