A Palestinian woman who lives in Malta this afternoon left for Cairo with 60 boxes of aid for the people of Gaza.

Sanaa El-Nahhal looked emotional at the airport as she waited to board her Egyptair flight, saying she was glad to be doing something to help the Palestinians, but sad it had come to this. She did not know yet whether she would be allowed into the Gaza strip through the Rafah crossing from Egypt, but said she would be doing her best. Rafah is her hometown.

Mrs El-Nahhah is taking food, medicines and clothing donated by the public. A donation was also made by the Foreign Ministry.

The 40-year-old woman, who lives in San Ġwann, said that if all went well, she would return to Malta in a bid to collect more aid.

Israel and Hamas declared a truce earlier today.
