Valletta beat Tarxien Rainbows 3-1 this afternoon after recovering quickly from a Mark Tanti goal in the 11th minute.
Dyson Falzon equalised for the citizens after 19 minutes and Ian Zammit put them in the lead just before the break. Gilbert Agius scored the third for Valletta in the 65th minute.
The result means Valletta are now two points adrift of leaders Hibs, with a game in hand.
Earlier Msida St Joseph beat Qormi 1-0 in the first match of the Premier League this afternoon.
The solidary goal, by Pedros Dos Santos Calcado in the first moments of the game, was enough to secure the three points, lifting the saints to fifth place in the table, on a par with Floriana.
Qormi had Keith Fenech sent off near the end of the match.
