Owen Pallett, best known as the violin player from the band The Arcade Fire, will be performing at the San Gejtanu Band Club in Ħamrun on May 1. The event is a joint collaboration between Stagedive and Kinemastik, the same people behind 2009’s acclaimed Bonnie Prince Billy concert.

Born in 1979, Pallett is a Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist and vocalist from Toronto.

He began his solo career under the name Final Fantasy, soon gaining a strong reputation for his eclectic live performances which can include anything from covers of Bloc Party to Mariah Carey.

In 2006, his second solo album He Poos Cloud went on to win the first edition of the Polaris Music Prize, the Canadian equivalent to the UK’s Mercury Awards.

For his third album Heartland, Pallett enlisted the services of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

The record oscillates between 19th century military music, 1970s analog synth-pop, Russian futurism and American pointillism, often in the space of a few bars.

Pallett is also well-known for collaborating with such artists as Beirut, The Last Shadow Puppets, Grizzly Bear, Pet Shop Boys and Mika. He especially shares a special bond with The Arcade Fire, contributing orchestral and string arrangements on all of their albums, including 2010’s Grammy-award winning The Suburbs, as well as forming part of their touring line-up.

Tickets cost €15 (€18 at the door) and are available either from The Coach and Horses in Valley Road, Msida, D’Amato Records, Valletta, Sugu, Vittoriosa, or by calling 9924 2815 or 9945 9555.

The concert starts at 7 p.m.
