Access to the Kappara Junction site will be closed between 10pm and 6am every evening from tonight through until Sunday, as workers install steel girders that will support the flyover bridge deck being built.

Eight of the 16 girders will be moved from Marsa to Kappara during night hours, with trailers leaving Marsa's Dock 7 at 8pm and moving through a planned route tested earlier this month, Transport Malta said.

The selected route will run through Triq il-Labour, Triq Aldo Moro, the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass, Santa Venera tunnels, Triq Reġjonali and Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli.

The trailer will drive on the right-hand carriageway to facilitate manoeuvring, with the road closed in segments to allow drivers to access alternative routes.

Once on-site, workers will immediately unload and weld girders into place while police and Transport Malta officers guide motorists in the area to alternative routes. Civil Protection Department personnel will also be on-site.

Transport Malta also said that it will be resurfacing parts of December 13 Road in Marsa and St Anne Street, Floriana, tonight and tomorrow.

The works, commencing at 8pm, will be limited to one lane, leaving the road open for vehicles. Works tomorrow will be carried out between 9am and 4pm and then again after 9pm.
