Sweden's former 400 metres hurdles runner Sven Nylander has admitted to using cocaine at a party following the European Championships.

"I was offered cocaine and used it," the 44-year-old Nylander said in an interview with television channel TV4, adding that he had used the drug on several other occasions at parties.

The previous day former high jump world record holder Patrik Sjoberg admitted he sniffed cocaine at the party in Gothenburg.

Formula 1 - Daimler close to get McLaren

DaimlerChrysler, the world's fifth largest carmaker, is close to acquiring the remaining 60 per cent it does not own in Formula One team McLaren, German media reported. Team boss Ron Dennis and Saudi investor Mansour Ojjeh each own 30 per cent of McLaren.

Daimler acquired a 40 per cent stake in 1999 for an estimated $400m.

Basketball - Yao Ming seeks best form

China's Yao Ming has admitted that he is struggling to find his best form, despite helping his country avoid an eighth successive defeat in their narrow victory over Australia late on Tuesday.

The NBA all-star scored 21 points and the winning basket in a 63-61 win against Australian at the Stankovic Cup. Yao said he was pleased with the last-gasp win as it provided a timely boost for the ailing national team ahead of the World Championships starting in Japan on Saturday.
