The Denver Nuggets sought to offset the suspension of high-scoring forward Carmelo Anthony by acquiring seven-times All-Star guard Allen Iverson from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Denver will send guard Andre Miller, forward Joe Smith and two 2007 first-round picks to the 76ers for the 31-year-old Iverson and rookie forward Ivan McFarlin.

The deal puts the league's two top scorers in the same team. Anthony, suspended 15 games last Monday for his role in the Nuggets' brawl against the New York Knicks on Saturday, is averaging 31.6 points this season. Iverson, a four-times scoring champion, is at 31.2.

Volleyball - Players punished

Eight Levski Siconco volleyball players were forced to sleep in the hall as a punishment for their 3-1 league defeat at home by Marek Union Ivkoni on Sunday, Bulgarian state television reported.

The report said coach Martin Stoev, who is also a Bulgarian national team trainer, was furious with his players' poor performance and ordered an extra training session after the final whistle.

Boyan Yordanov, a member of the Bulgarian team who won the bronze medal at the men's world championship in Japan this month, was among the players who spent the night in Levski's hall in the Sofia residential district of Lyulin.

Athletics - Noguchi to run in London

Olympic women's marathon champion Mizuki Noguchi of Japan will compete in the London marathon on April 22 next year, organisers said.

Noguchi, 28, is the third fastest marathon runner ever after clocking two hours 19 minutes 12 seconds in last year's Berlin event.

"I have decided to go to London because I want the opportunity to test myself against the best in the world," she said.
