The Nationalist Party will be supporting the Whistleblower Act since it was in favour of all initiatives aimed at strengthening Maltese institutions in their fight against corruption and other abuses.
The party said in a statement it took this decision during a meeting of the parliamentary group.
It noted that the bill presented was nearly identical to that which had been presented by a Nationalist government in the last legislature and which the Labour Opposition had criticized so much.
The law, the party said, would add to a long list of laws introduced by Nationalist governments for good governance and to fight corruption.
These included the setting up of the Offices of the Ombudsman and the Auditor General, the Commission Against Corruption, the House Business Committee, the Tribunal for Administrative Review, the Freedom of Information Act and the Money Laundering Act.
