Labour's spokesman for the environment, sustainable development and climate change, Leo Brincat this morning called for a reaction from the government to the European Commission's report on the Maltese environment.

Published earlier this week, the report listed Malta as the leading Member State with infringements on its head with regards to the European Union's environmental regulations. The report continues to explain that half of these infringements are related to air polution.

Furthermore, the report states that, although it was obliged to do so, Malta never submitted reports on waste management.

Regarding air pollution, the report said that, rather than decreasing, Greenhouse Gas emissions are in fact increasing and are predicted to double.

The report continued to criticise Malta with regards to renewable sources.

The opposition, which alleges to be obliged to give a positive and serious contribution the state of the environment, is also asking the government for an update to this report.
