The Malta Young Sailors Club will be organising an Open Day at their Tax-Xama premises, in St Paul's Bay, on Sunday.
Children between the ages of seven and 13 years, who are interested in attending sailing courses for beginners this summer, will get a clear idea on the activities being organised by the club.
An introduction to Optimist dinghy sailing will be given to boys and girls present as well as the opportunity to experience sailing in an Optimist with the assistance of present and past MYSC sailors, under the supervision of club coaches.
MYSC has an excellent record of champions on both national and international levels, including Thomas Zammit Tabona and Maya Podesta, winners of a gold and silver medal respectively for Malta during the 2009 Games of the Small States of Europe, in Cyprus.
Other club members include Benji Borg and Sebastian Ripard who are currently training and aiming at qualifying in the 49er Class for the 2012 Olympics.
During the Open Day, more information will also be available on other activities and courses for advanced groups organised by the club during the summer months.
Meanwhile, due to the anticipated high demand for summer sailing this year, two qualified Irish officials will be in Malta to assist with coaching together with ex-MYSC Optimist medalists Ella Fleri Soler and Sean Borg, all under the charge of club coach Simon Psaila.
Long-time national coach Jean Paul Fleri Soler will be responsible for the coaching of the Advanced Group in the summer courses.
