Cows are known to like wandering over pastures, nibbling fresh grass at will to supplement their diet of hay and pellets. Yet, the cows being raised, in a manner of speaking, on a farm in Magħtab, Ħabel Żwejra, have no such luck. They are often to be seen roving in the landfill site, among the building debris and other rubbish.

Towed

Vehicles parked on double yellow lines or in no parking areas risk being clamped or towed away. But some drivers seem to be more equal than others. Look at the vehicles often parked wherever, usually in the shade of a tree, at Castille Square, Valletta. And they are not only ministerial or CD cars. The other day, an SUV spotted there must have been the property of a high-profile MP given the person's initials on the number plate.

Waiting

Tourists are often seen waiting on the bus stop near the car park opposite the service entrance to the Corinthia Hotel, Attard. Since more often than not they are Valletta bound but the bus stopping there does not go to the capital city, shouldn't a notice be posted there?

Skipped

Once again, the bring-in site separations skips in Triq il-Fortizza, Mosta, are in a sorry state. It would seem that the residents, and anyone else who uses them, cannot wait until the bins are empty before getting rid of rubbish. As a result, once they overflow, the surrounding area is treated as extensions of the containers. This shows a dire lack of respect towards the people themselves, the village and the environment. Is it possible to have the area cleared up and, consequently, cleaned more often?

Ongoing

The driver of the public bus who, last Tuesday, was passing by the Tarġa Gap bus stop on the way to Valletta (near the entrance to the public garden), by the itinerant vegetable seller, ought to be ashamed of himself. A would-be commuter flagged him down and, yet, he did not even approach the side of the road, let alone stop.

Sheltered

Incidentally, the shelter at the said bus stop looks like a discarded piece of scenery from an old wartime film, constructed as it is from concrete and corrugated iron. Surely, it is high time such a decrepit structure were replaced.

Walled

The front part of the perimeter wall of the Qormi village cemetery needs being seen to. It is badly weathered and may collapse in some places. The cemetery itself, besides, needs cleaning up. The little that individuals do to clean up the area beside their family graves is clearly not enough.

Commissioned

There was a time when tourist guides led their charges to places like Valletta and Ta' Qali, where there was a choice of merchandise to be had from shops selling the same types of goods. However, of late, there has arisen a practice of taking busloads of tourists to places where there is just one shop of a particular kind, when shopping becomes Hobson's choice and visitors who are pressed for time have no choice but to patronise these specific few outlets. This may be profitable for the shop, and the guide, but not necessarily conducive to good word-of-mouth publicity by the tourists.

Tarmac

The main street at Qawra, in the Fuego area and Tal-Lira area and further on along both sides, appears to have a centre parting. It would seem that the tarmac was laid in two sections, without any overlap at the centre. The texture of the two halves is different in places, too. This means that in some places there is a narrow channel that will soon widen into a furrow if left unattended.

Complaints

Many people are heard complaining that you cannot feed a family properly because life has become so expensive. This could well be a question of education. Using fresh seasonal produce instead of preserved foreign out-of-season things would make a lot of difference. Besides, it is healthier.
