Emergency disorder

Patients waiting at Mater Dei Hospital’s Emergency Department on Thursday morning were shocked and disgusted by the attitude of a foreign national, who had apparently just arrived from Mount Carmel Hospital, refusing to stay in a room where nurses told him he would be seen to and giving menacing looks at those who approached him asking him to calm down. Holding a €50 note in his hands and demanding to buy cigarettes, he caused a degree of panic among those present. What is worse, no police officer or security personnel turned up to restore order.

Post marked

Sending letters by mail is not as popular as it used to be but letterboxes can still be seen all over the island and it is a shame that some of them appear to be in an abandoned state. Even if they are not that much in use nowadays, they cannot be left to rust in street corners. Maltapost needs to do something about it.

Road sign

A notice next to a white tent on the Birkirkara bypass refers to a car wash but no such facility exists. Way back there had been talk of a car wash opening in the area but so far it has not materialised. Has the project been abandoned? If so, can the notice and the tent be removed?

No worries

Some drivers continue to act as though the rules do not apply to them and park their cars anywhere they please as long as it is convenient to them. The other day, a motorist not only parked their car illegally but also blocked wheelchair access to the pavement. Is it possible no policeman or warden witnessed this?

Better upkeep

It is a shame that the few remaining rubble walls are often not being taken care of. Some have been damaged by bad weather and others could have been hit by vehicles. They are a characteristic of this country and, therefore, deserve more attention.
