I would like to point out a couple of inaccuracies in Edmund Farrugia’s letter (September 27).

Mr Farrugia got mixed up when he said that Luxol participated in the 1965 season. How could it have been if Luxol were founded in 1968?

Luxol Basketball is definitely not a breakaway from Athleta. In 1967, Joseph Falzon, the proud founder member of the Luxol Basketball Club, had already agreed to sign players from Athleta, Alpines and St Edwards as was the custom in those years.

Mr Farrugia also mixed up dates and facts were he said that I started playing basketball with Athleta Juvenis in 1964. The fact is that I started my MBA playing career at the end of 1966/67 with Mundlos under the then famous basketball coach, the late Tony Micallef Borg (Il-Bossy). We used to play our games on the ceramic floor of the school hall of the Msida primary school.

I played for Athleta for one season, 1967/68, when we won the section but lost to Neptunes in the semi-final. Having said that, I would like to thank Mr Farrugia for stirring up memories and nostalgia.
