An exhibition on antique icons can be visited until August at Il-Ħaġar –Heart of Gozo museum (level -1) in Victoria.

A private collector is presenting an assortment of very rare traditional Eastern European icons depicting St George victorious over the dragon. They are all painted on gesso over wood.

Another temporary exhibition currently on at the museum offers an unusual socio-literary look at the Cinderella story. Art historian and social anthropologist Veronica Veen has been studying for years ‘Germudija’, the Gozo variant of the Cinderella theme. After getting support from the National Book Council for her book The Maltese Cinderella & Women’s Storytelling Tradition, she has set up a detailed look about the tale itself as it developed in various cultures.

This material can be viewed until June 21. Copies of the book will be available and Dr Veen is usually in attendance for further background explanations.

Both exhibitions are being held at Il-Ħaġar – Heart of Gozo museum in St George’s Square, Victoria. Opening hours are from 9am to 5pm. Entrance is free.
