The Nationalist Party said today that while is made more than 700 proposals for localities where local council elections will be held on Saturday, the Labour Party had made practically none.

PN General Secretary Chris Said said Labour had made no specific proposals for the individual localities, even though each had its different needs.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr Said the PN and its candidates wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.

The local councils elections campaign had shown that Labour did not actually give importance to the councils, and hardly mentioned them at all, he said. It focused on the central government instead.

Deputy leader Mario de Marco said that despite claims of Malta Ottimista, Labour had waged a dirty mudslinging campaign. It had also given prominence to projects which were actually initiated by the PN government.

Deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami hit out at the government for its lack of transparency, highlighting Toni Abela’s claim that he agreed about the government making the people rich, even secretly.

Dr Said said the PL was abusing its position in government by using public funds to win votes. An example, he said, was how the government intervened to asphalt two roads surrounding the Mosta housing estate in recent weeks.

Soon after, Justice Minister Owen Bonnici reminded the press that back in February 2012, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had visited one of the roads - Triq id-Dawr - and promised to carry out works in the road.

Dr Said also referred to a case in Nadur, where a woman who said she would not be voting Labour if her street was not resurfaced had the exact patch in front of her house done up. “Without a doubt, this is about using public funds to win votes,” Dr Said added.
