Nine babies were born on Christmas Day, Health Minister Chris Fearne tweeted, bringing additional cheer to households across the country.

The children, four girls and five boys, spread joy to many families and staff on duty at Mater Dei hospital.

The hospital sees thousands of babies born every year, with 104 babies being born through in vitro fertilisation since the service started being offered at Mater Dei two years ago.

December is reportedly one of the busiest months for the hospital.
