Nicholas Dimech has been elected as the new mayor of Sliema, winning 1,800 votes when the quota was 655.

The PN increased its majority in Sliema, at the expense of Alternattiva Demokratika, whose Michael Briguglio won 457 votes.

Labour's Martin Debono and PN's Johanna Gonzi were also elected on the first count with 1,072 and 806 votes, respectively.

On the second count, the PN elected Bobby Cali, Cyrus Engerer and Patrick Pace. PL elected Marianne Aquilina on the third count.

Sliema will this time have 11 seats, three more than previously, in view of the growing population.

Outgoing mayor Marina Arrigo did not seek re-election.

Meanwhile, Maria Deguara has been confirmed as mayor of Naxxar. She won 1,831 first count votes, an increase from her 1,666 first preference votes three years ago. The quota was 680.

Clifford Galea, PL, was also elected on the first count with 722 votes.

Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami and Pierre Sciberras, both PN, were elected on the second count. David Bonello, PN, was elected on the eighth and Pauline Miceli, PL, on the 10th.
