Maltese people's penchant for sending SMSs is being made easier through the launch of Go Mobile's mygo Box.

The online messaging centre gives users online access to SMS, MMS, e-mail and their phonebook through one convenient portal.

Statistics show that in February 35.9 million SMSs and 67,255 MMSs were sent, as well as 17,755 WAPs.

Go Mobile senior IT executive Alan Zammit described mygo Box as a novel service that brings all the most popular messaging systems into one unified communication centre.

"It will facilitate the users' access to different messaging systems and will simplify how we use these different platforms thus making our lives that much easier," he said.

Subscribers will be entitled to 100MB of storage space for all their messaging requirements. They will be given a personalised e-mail account and will start receiving free SMS alerts to inform them of the receipt of new messages.

He said another feature that is thought to be very popular, especially with business clients, is the ability to back up and update phonebook contacts using this service. He said customers will also be able to synchronise their phonebook with their mygo phonebook using their SyncML compatible handset.

Go Mobile senior executive for engineering Martin Zammit said this service was made possible following a "critical upgrade" to core parts of the underlying mobile network.

Customers can subscribe to mygo Box by visiting www.go.com.mt/mygo, and pay a subscription fee of 50c per 30 days, which will be automatically deducted from their account.
