Mancini: Inter coach Roberto Mancini, whose players were attacked by fans at the weekend, said he would leave Italian soccer when his time at the Serie A club ends. "This matter has speeded up my plans to go abroad - when I finish with Inter I will leave Italy, that's a certainty," Mancini said yesterday. "Playing and enjoying yourself, which is what the game is all about, is no longer possible." (See also page 51).

Young: Charlton manager Alan Curbishley played down fears yesterday that captain Luke Young could miss out on a place in England's World Cup squad through injury. Curbishley said the versatile defender could be back in first-team action by April 22. "Talk that he is going to be out for the rest of the season is really premature," Curbishley said.

Rijkaard: Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard has warned his Primera Liga leaders against complacency after they had to come from behind to draw 2-2 at Racing Santander. Barcelona remain 11 points clear at the top with six games remaining after Sunday's draw, but missed a chance to settle the title at home on the weekend before their Champions League semi-final first leg at Milan on April 18. "We really had to work hard to secure the draw. If you don't do things well, things don't go your way," Rijkaard said after the game.

Robson: Ireland's national football adviser and ex-England manager, Bobby Robson, was recuperating yesterday after successful surgery to repair lung damage sustained in a skiing accident. Robson, who as well as coaching England from 1982 to 1990 has also managed PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Newcastle United, was appointed Ireland's international football consultant in January to act as mentor to the national team's new manager, Steve Staunton.

Luxemburgo: Former Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, sacked by Real Madrid only four months ago, added another trophy to his collection on Sunday as Santos won the Paulista championship. Pele's former club beat Portuguesa 2-0 to finish the 19-match campaign one point ahead of Sao Paulo, who beat Ituano by the same score. The Paulista - the Sao Paulo state championship - is the largest of the regional tournaments which kick off the Brazilian season. It is also the only one to use a conventional league system.

Schalke: Schalke 04 have given coach Mirko Slomka a new contract running to the end of next season, despite a disappointing result on Sunday that leaves them with little chance of a Champions League place. Slomka took over as coach in January following the dismissal of Ralf Rangnick. The team were in fourth place in the Bundesliga at the time and that situation has not altered.

In Italy: Serie B - Mantova vs Bologna 0-2.

MFA Division Two: Zebbug vs Gozo 0-1; Dingli vs Mellieha 0-0.
