MEPs Miriam Dalli, Alfred Sant and Therese Comodini Cachia have pledged to keep an open and direct channel of communication with trade union representatives, constituted bodies and other stakeholders.

Addressing a MEUSAC core group meeting, Social Dialogue Minister Helena Dalli urged the newly elected MEPs to build an affiliation with the core group, as the various representatives stood for various portions of the Maltese workforce.

Associations’ and union representatives addressed their concerns to Miriam Dalli, who was present from the beginning of the meeting, adding that they wished the rest of the MEPs were present. While Dr Sant and Dr Comodini Cachia arrived late, Roberta Metsola and Marlene Mizzi were unable to attend and David Casa failed to turn up.

Dr Sant said he was interested in learning the stakeholders’ reactions and their analysis on recent developments on the sectors they represented.

He emphasised the importance of predicting the effect that particular proposals would have within the Maltese context because it was not always a case of “one size fits all”.

Dr Comodini Cachia added that the MEPs needed to influence EU legislation before it was enacted.

She added that she also wished the stakeholders to identify their aspirations for the sectors and people they represented.
