Melita Cable today announced the appointment of Stephen Wright as Chief Operations Officer, who will be taking over from CEO Philip Micallef.

Mr Micallef was CEO for the past two years, during Melita consolidated its leadership in its original core business of cable TV and made significant inroads into broadband, the company said. In the first quarter of last year it introduced fixed line telephony.

“Melita Cable, under the leadership of Stephen Wright, is committed to implement the necessary infrastructural, investment and senior management changes, which will enable Melita to meet the challenges and continued growth in the immediate future.”

Melita also announced that it will be introducing new products aimed at different consumers and making significant investments including the laying of a multi-million euro cable, linking Malta to Europe and the rest of the world. Another major development will be the introduction of mobile communication, which will be launched in the coming months.

Mr Wright said that the new challenges required new leadership, investment, talent and operational disciplines in vital areas, which together with Melita’s highly experienced management team, would ensure that the company achieved its objectives to be a leading quadruple player in Malta in the shortest possible time.
