I hope that Arriva’s promises for a better public bus service, as you reported last Sunday, will come true. Could Arriva make sure that the blaring of radios on buses will be completely banned once the company starts operating?

I also hope that in view of the selfishness of many commuters, and carelessness of most drivers, that all seats are occupied and no standing is allowed when seats are available.

If not available they should not allow a few standing passengers clogging the area close to the bus entrance, wasting the remaining standing space and leaving other commuters stranded at bus stops.

Another fervent hope is that these provide the necessary information available as to where bus routes are directed and also with relevant timetables.

Very often both locals and foreign visitors need such information and much time is wasted when buses are stopped and the driver is asked for it.

Many drivers patiently provide such information but many others are curt and almost downright rude to people who ask.

As regards general manners many bus drivers are often hopeless and give a bad name to those who are not, the latter unfortunately still a rather small minority. Some apologists cite difficult working hours to excuse the unpardonable; so it is imperative that drivers should have decent working hours.

I also find it unacceptable that along such a busy route as that followed by bus numbers 62, 64, 66, 67 and 68, especially once they follow the same route from St Julian’s Bay on to Valletta, there are often times when one has to wait even up to 20 minutes or more for one of them to show up.

A frequent occurrence is that they also all show up at the same time. Something somewhere is very wrong, so let us wait and see.
