Registration is now open for WICT 2008, the first national ICT conference aimed at promoting innovation, research and applications of technologies and practices in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), which will take place on November 17 and 18 at the Aula Magna, Old University Building, Valletta. The conference will showcase 36 original papers by University students, researchers and academics dealing with both theoretical and practical aspects of ICT research. The event is being organised by the University 's Faculty of ICT.

The conference is aimed at enabling researchers to direct their efforts to areas of national and international relevance; encouraging students to explore potential research areas in line with industry requirements; and showing market players what the academic arena has to offer in terms of Research and Development and recruitment opportunities.

It will also feature three high-profile speakers: Dr Tim Regan from Microsoft Research Cambridge will be give a key- note speech on the subject of 'Computer-Mediated Living'; Dr Pythagoras Papdimitriou from Sun Microsystems will be speak on 'Identity Management'; and Dr Marjes Zammit from Google Labs who deliver a presentation on 'Information Retrieval'.
