The Malta Volleyball Academy, in conjunction with the University of Malta’s Institute of Physical Education and Sport, kicked off its activities last Saturday with the first session of a youth coaching course.
This is the first time the MVA is organising a course aimed specifically at coaching young players. Along with the introduction of the U-13 league, this initiative is part of the academy’s ‘Investment in Youth’ policy.
The Level 1 course comprises three lectures and a theoretical and practical exam. Saturday’s session started with an address from MVA president Branko Vlahovic. He explained that the aim of the academy is to provide a platform for the overall improvement of the game in Malta.
Vlahovic expressed his delight that the course attracted more than 25 candidates who are involved in the local game.
Andrew Decelis, director of the Institute of Physical Education and Sport, gave a lecture entitled ‘Coaching Philosophy and Objectives’.
This was followed by a practical session on elementary volley-ball techniques and their imple-mentation. The session was conducted by Srdjan Veckov, the national volleyball coach.
Those interested in attending the remaining two sessions of this youth course can apply through the MVA website www.maltavolleyball.org.
