The Malta Union of Teachers has expressed concern over a number of sudden transfers of Learning Support Assistants (facilitators), saying such transfers in the middle of the scholastic year were detrimental to the children with special needs who were in their care.

"Such actions show a serious lack of appreciation of the useful work done by the Learning Support Assistants," MUT President John Bencini said.

He added that because of the serious shortage, the government was burdening the LSAs with more children.

This was being done for the authorities to save funds by not emplying more staff, Mr Bencini said.
