Ireland striker Robbie Keane is on the verge of re-joining Tottenham Hotspur after Liverpool said the Premier League clubs had agreed a deal.

"Liverpool Football Club have this afternoon confirmed they have reached agreement with Spurs for the transfer of Robbie Keane back to the White Hart Lane club," Liverpool's website (www.liverpoolfc.tv) said.

Keane, who joined Liverpool from Tottenham in July for 19 million pounds ($26.90 million) but has struggled to impress manager Rafael Benitez, was granted permission to speak to his former club.

Tottenham were still to confirm that Keane had re-signed but if personal terms are agreed he would become the third player to return to the London club in the transfer window following striker Jermain Defoe and defender Pascal Chimbonda.
