The Malta Taekwondo Federation (MTF) will be benefiting from a protocol signed last week with the Greek Taekwondo Federation who will be assisting the locals in various aspects of the martial art discipline.

Present for the signing at the Malta Olympic Committee headquarters in Tal-Qroqq, were Greek Taekwondo Federation head Athanasios Pragalos and general secretary Nikos Thomaidis.

National team trainer Oh-Young Joo was also in the visiting group. Pragalos is deputy general secretary of the Greek Olympic Committee and a European Taekwondo Union official. The Greeks were reciprocating a visit by MOC president Lino Farrugia Sacco.

Taekwondo, a Korean martial art gaining popularity at a steady progress, is an Olympic sport. In 2005 it will feature as one of the disciplines in the GSSE in Andorra.

The Greek federation will be providing a specialised coach to the MTF for a minimum duration of six months.

The protocol also included a pledge by the Greeks to have four Maltese athletes training with their national squad ahead of qualifying tournaments. There will also be assistance to Maltese referees' through an update seminar here.
