Following the Super Cup finals, the ladies MHA Cup got underway last Saturday with the first two matches.

La Salle 12
Salesians 4

Newly-formed La Salle Vitality, mainly composed of last season's championship winning side Wild Angels, started their commitments with a comfortable win over Salesians HC, ex-University.

The first half was rather slow with Salesians finding it very hard to manage a shot at goal. They also missed two penalty shots.

On the other hand, La Salle were not always sharp enough to capitalise on their opponents' mistakes. At half-time they were leading 5-0.

However, the beginning of the second half saw Salesians, managed by Stephan Vancell, staging a bold recovery, scoring four goals in quick succession.

Such an unexpected burst seemed to have given La Salle a much-needed shake up as from then on John Falzon's girls regained the edge to notch all points at stake.

Best player: Louise Micallef (La Salle Vitality).

Aloysians 14
Kavallieri 10

Milos Stanisavljevic's Aloysians took sweet revenge over Kavallieri after the latter's Super Cup final victory the previous weekend.

All in all it was a merited success for Aloysians as they showed more character in their play.

However, it was Kavallieri who had the better start but as time went by Aloysians started to settle down. Midway through the first period both teams were locked at a 3-3 stalemate.

Aloysians' superiority was beginning to emerge gradually as they had the final say of the first period with three quick goals to give them an 8-4 lead at half-time.

One expected Kavallieri to go all out and reduce the gap. However, they only managed to reduce the deficit to 8-6 as once again Aloysians took the upperhand.

With Isabelle Camilleri solid in the Aloysians' goal and time running out, Kavallieri started to panic.

This gave Aloysians the chance to keep the game firmly within their grasp before securing their first win of the season.

Best player: Isabelle Camilleri (Aloysians).
