The government is drafting the tender documents to remedy the structural weakness caused by weak concrete used in two blocks of apartments in Mtarfa built by the Housing Authority some 20 years ago, Family Minister Michael Farrugia said yesterday.

Answering a PQ from Jason Azzopardi (PN), he said he had appointed a Board of Inquiry chaired by Judge Philip Sciberras to evaluate the civil and criminal responsibilities.

Even if the Housing Authority’s responsibility was time-barred, the government would not abandon the 40 families living in Blocks A and B in Binja Buqana.

Once the degree of fraud was ascertained, the government would ask those responsible to refund all the money spent to make the building safe.
