A 29-year-old woman from Msida, Alexia Cross, this morning pleaded not guilty to stealing blank cheques and cash from a shop called Fastasy and breaching probation conditions and a suspended sentence.

Defence lawyer Michael Sciriha told the court that remanding his client in custody might not be ideal as she might be pregnan.

Police inspector Angelo Gafa said that this was ridiculous as when he was searching for her she told him that she had miscarried.

After taking into consideration that the fraud and stolen cash amounted to around €5,000, Magistrate Michael Mallia remanded Ms Cross in custody.
