There seem to have been an increase in the number of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants driving motor vehicles on our roads. Of course, there should not be any objections to this so long as the department in charge of driving licences hopefully ensures these vehicle users are doing so legally.

Going through Ħal Far and Marsa one just cannot help noticing a large number of vehicles appearing around these sites; as if money was no object. I certainly do not wish to raise anything that would sound racist as that is very far from my reasoning but, surely, stringent checks need to be made by the relevant authorities. A motor vehicle is a lethal weapon, especially in the hands of those who may have never driven in their own country. How does someone who arrives here with no documentation whatsoever suddenly drive a car?

I fully understand this is a very delicate issue, however it is down to the department of transport to ensure there are no illegal practices. I must stress I do not have an issue with anyone of any creed driving but, please, let us make sure they are doing so within the law.
