Most of the residents in the south are complaining about the black dust coming from ships during high-pressured blasting. The grit in use consists of an iron and carbon mixture. Most of it ends up at sea and the rest polluting the air.
Using the same blasting equipment, ships should be blasted with natural sand found in the Maltese quarries. Most tradesmen may be surprised by this method but it works far better than grit, is also less expensive and more environment friendly.
This system was used to blast the iron machinery of the underground flour mill in Xemxija.
It is important the sand used is as dry as posible.
I would find no objection to explaining the method further should anybody be interested.
