Most work in the Criminal Court have ground to a halt because of the European elections.
Police Deputy Commissioner Andrew Seychell wrote to the Chief Justice last month saying the police would be occupied with the EP elections and he therefore asked for all the officers to be excused from attending sittings today, tomorrow and on Monday.
Chief Justice Silvio Camilleri then wrote to the judges and magistrates, enclosing the deputy commissioner's letter and asking them to be guided accordingly.
He emphasised that the letter applied only for cases where the police were required.
