More than €2 billion worth of property was transferred last year with 15,557 contracts registered, Finance minister Edward Scicluna said today.

He told Nationalist MP Claudio Grech in reply to a parliamentary question that the stamp duty paid on these transactions amounted to €57 million.

Property sale agreements, the minister said, had been on the increase since 2012 when 11,795 contracts representing €1.8 billion worth of property were concluded.

In 2013, 12,272 contracts were registered going up to 14,795 in 2014.

Since 2008, the least property sale contracts (11,751) were concluded in 2009 at with €1.2 billion worth of property transferred.
