The Malta Maritime Authority is investigating the sinking of the Malta-registered ship Emma in the Black Sea on Friday morning. All 11 crew members, all Turkish, safely abandoned the vessel before it sank.

The MMA said the the Emma, 1,520 gross tons, was built in 1971.

One of its cargo holds started taking in water on Thursday evening. Crewmen tried to pump it out, but the pumps could not keep up and the vessel eventually sank on Friday.
