The government over the past year spent €802,000 in financial assistance to Gozitan students in Malta, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said today.

Gozitan University students were given around €700,000 for accommodation and €20,000 for transport, whilst students in other institutions received more than €66,000 for accommodation and €16,000 for transport related expenses.

The minister made her comments when she visited the University Gozo Centre of the University, where the university is currently offered advice on the choice of university courses to more than 200 students who for the past two years, attended a Matsec Course at the Sir M.A. Refalo Centre for Further Studies.

The University Gozo Centre was inaugurated in 1992 and offers a range of short courses. During the upcoming academic year it will be holding the Diploma in Commerce course between October 2009 and September 2010. www.um.edu.mt/apply
