Another notch in the glorious history of the Regatta by the powerful oarsmen of Senglea, this was a just reward for all the hard work done by all those involved. As the afternoon progressed it became obvious which team was going to conquer all. Senglea, the yellow and red clad team, just tore the opposition apart.
Celebrations were plentiful and we residents of this wonderful historical maritime city are extremely proud of such achievements. However, the joy of winning was somewhat cut short by the sudden sad demise of Freddie Fiteni (Sapuna) just a couple of days after the win.
Freddie was very much an integral part of the rowing scene in Senglea for many years. In his own right he had achieved many triumphs, which now are being emulated by his own son Rhys Fiteni. Freddie was quite a character who contributed to the colourful cheerful side of Senglea. He had a singing talent of some note and frequently one could hear him singing from his home or at Alice Springs Kiosk at the waterfront. Freddie shall be missed by one and all. “Rest in peace Mr Senglea”.
