The Ministry of Home Affairs insisted this afternoon that it never denied army personnel their right to file complaints in terms of the law.

The ministry was referring to a judicial protest by the Ombudsman who yesterday complained he was being obstructed in considering complaints from AFM officers.

The ministry said it had broadened the complaints procedure by setting up the injustices board, which to date had upheld the majority of complaints. The complaints would be addressed in the coming days.

The ministry said the Ombudsman could investigate any complaint by non-commissioned officers, and it cooperated fully in such investigations.

However, commissioned officers had other means to make their complaints, in terms of the law which had been respected for years.

The ministry said it would file a counter-protest.
