Production could continue at failed car firm MG Rover but it was only an "outside possibility", administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers said. After sifting through hundreds of bids for the company since it went into administration last month, PwC said it had three viable offers for its niche MGTF sports car business and two credible offers for the rest of the business and assets.

"While there is still an outside possibility that some form of car production could recommence at Longbridge (MG Rover's main UK production plant), the cost and complexity of the challenge should not be underestimated," Tony Lomas, joint administrator and partner at PwC, said in a statement.

"The potential buyers are known to be looking at the alternative scenarios of continuing production at Longbridge or relocating it elsewhere."
