The Met Office of Malta International Airport has warned of unstable weather during the weekend.

In a statement, it said there will be thundery showers  between Thursday night and Saturday, accompanied by a strong wind.

"This weather is a result of a cold front associated with a depression over Italy and which will extend from the Adriatic Sea towards northeast Algeria tomorrow and which will move south-eastwards crossing the Maltese Islands overnight between Thursday and Friday.

"This front will bring rain-bearing clouds into the region together with cooler air making the atmosphere more unstable over a still relatively warm sea. This will lead to the formation of more convective clouds into the low pressure system, resulting in showers with thunders.

"The wind is expected to veer into a mainly North-westerly direction and become rather strong to strong"
