A commission to review Mepa policies was set up by Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco this afternoon.

The commission will be chaired by David Pace and its members are Raphael Axiak, Tony Fenech Vella and Martin Galea. Its tasks include the review of the authority's internal policies.

Dr de Marco said this revision exercise was aimed at removing bureaucracy and improving regulation while making the whole process transparent.

This commission has until the end of this year to come up with its recommendations.

This, Dr de Marco said, formed part of the Mepa reform.

Other initiatives included the launch of a more user friendly website yesterday, the call last week for interested parties to sit on the two full time DCC boards and a call for full time members on the Planning Appeals' Board, to be issued next week.

Mepa chairman Austin Walker explained that ODZ policies would fall under the strategic unit which has to be set up under the Office of the Prime Minister.
