IT solutions provider Megabyte Ltd of Mosta has named Rainer van Beckum as its new chief executive officer. He takes over from John Ambrogio who is relinquishing the post after reaching the company's official retirement age.

After 11 years at the helm, Mr Ambrogio will continue to work with Megabyte to assist the new CEO in the early months of his tenure to ensure continuity in all operational and commercial matters.

Mr van Beckum joined Megabyte in September 2009 as the designated successor to Mr Ambrogio following a call for applications.

After obtaining his Master's degree he began his career as a software programmer and later took on a role in project management where he was responsible for development and worldwide implementation of complex IT systems.

As a line manager, he worked for Germany's biggest IT service provider and for seven years he was CEO of the IT branch of RWE, a major utility company in Germany.

He has been resident in Malta for a year.

Mr van Beckum commented: "In these critical times, the provision of IT services and products with the highest professional dedication at minimal cost is a key essential for growth and profitability. The key to the continued success of Megabyte will be creating value for its customer in aligning IT with business to strengthen competitiveness."

Formed in 1979, Megabyte is associated with some of the major developments in the evolution of ICT in Malta.
