On March 29 the Ministry for IT and Investment (MITI) together with the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) launched a new e-Government service - Online System for part-time courses. The system was designed and developed by Crimsonwing, Malta's largest private IT company.
Delivered ahead of time, the project was handled by a team of six Crimsonwing developers, in close collaboration with MCAST's management. The system, designed by Crimsonwing and MCAST, is intuitive, slick and user friendly, enabling users to browse, book, confirm, pay and acknowledge courses of their choice with minimum effort.
The project involved the development of two Websites: a public one allowing members of the public to apply online and an administrative site for MCAST administrators to process applications.
High level features on the public site allow users to browse, book and pay for selected courses online. Every student can view his own history of bookings as well as submit feedback of the course online.
Other features include course scheduling, a waiting list facility, automatic notifications and a system of waivers for the payment of course fees. Its counterpart, the administrative site includes high level features that handle the many courses, schedules and lecturers that are available. Crimsonwing has also allowed for MCAST to download all data to carry out their own ad hoc reporting.
This new application will be of major benefit to all those applying for courses next semester. Anyone interested can log on to www.mcastshortcourses.gov.mt.
