The launch of the maternity leave fund should be delayed by a month because companies had not yet upgraded their software, the employers’ association said yesterday.

Many, it said, were “frustrated with the way in which Budget measures were being launched without taking into consideration the mechanics involved in the implementation”.

The Malta Employers’ Association said one such case was the change in payment for maternity leave.

Although many employers agreed in principle on such a fund, they were unable to make the necessary changes to their payroll systems in time for the August roll-out.

Companies needed more time – at least another month – to adjust their software, the association added.
