The August 2010 changeover from one per cent to 0.7 per cent sulphur heavy fuel oil reduced the Marsa power station’s emissions of sulphur dioxide by 10 per cent, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech told Labour MP Leo Brincat in reply to a parliamentary question.

He added that the use of nitrogen oxide burners was being reduced, and fuel staging implemented since the beginning of the year had reduced emissions by 20 per cent.
